“Sleep in” ou “oversleep”?
Dormir até mais tarde do que o de costume pode ser uma ação deliberada, ou que aconteceu por acidente. Em inglês, dependendo da situação utilizamos um vocábulo diferente. Vejam abaixo para entender melhor do que estamos falando.
A palavra “oversleep” em inglês significa que dormimos além do planejado, normalmente resultando em chegar atrasado para algum compromisso:
He was late for work this morning because he overslept. Ele chegou atrasado no trabalho hoje de manhã porque dormiu demais.
I have two alarm clocks to make sure I don’t oversleep. Eu tenho dois despertadores para me certificar que não vou dormir além da hora.
She overslept and missed the bus. Ela dormiu além da conta e perdeu o ônibus.
Já a expressão “sleep in” em inglês também é usada com o significado de “oversleep” como vemos abaixo:
She overslept and missed the bus. = She slept in and missed the bus.
Mas é muito mais comum usarmos “sleep in” quando dormimos até mais tarde, deliberadamente ou intencionalmente. Vejam os exemplos:
I usually sleep in on Sunday mornings. Eu normalmente durmo até mais tarde nos domingos de manhã.
We wanted to sleep in but the phone woke us up at 7. Nós queríamos dormir até mais tarde, mas o telefone nos acordou às 7.
I’m going to watch the Carnival parade tonight and sleep in tomorrow. Eu vou assistir ao desfile de Carnaval hoje à noite e dormir até mais tarde amanhã.
