To become an organ donor it is essential to communicate to the family the desire to donate. The organs that can be donated by people killed are: cornea, kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, and femur.

However, there are components that can be donated by living people. They are: kidney, part of the liver, the lungs and bone marrow.

The bone marrow transplant needs a much greater compatibility than any other tissue or organ to happen. Not enough to merely have the blood type, it is necessary to have a genetic characteristic compatible. The donor has to go to a hematology center, complete a questionnaire and provide a blood sample. The information goes to a national registry and the donor will only be called when there is someone compatible needing the transplant. The donation of bone marrow only occurs in life. What is that makes us human?

The weekend is coming and here it goes “food for thought”!

What is it that makes us human? Is it that we love, that we fight ? That we laugh ? Cry ? Our curiosity ? The quest for discovery ?

Driven by these questions, filmmaker and artist Yann Arthus-Bertrand spent three years collecting real-life stories from 2,000 women and men in 60 countries. Working with a dedicated team of translators, journalists and cameramen, Yann captures deeply personal and emotional accounts of topics that unite us all; struggles with poverty, war, homophobia, and the future of our planet mixed with moments of love and happiness.

Here you have two stories. And “now what?” They are part of VOL.1, which deals with the themes of love, women, work and poverty: https://youtu.be/vdb4XGVTHkE. If you want to discover more contents, go on http://g.co/humanthemovie
