We look back at the journey to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. So many landmarks have been passed and today the first match will be played – Russia v Saudi Arabia. Which games are you most looking forward to?
Look forward to is a phrasal verb so very much used, and it means to be excited and pleased about something that is going to happen:
I’m really looking forward to our vacation.
My mother says she’s looking forward to meeting you.

Brazilian politicians and business leaders are heavily involved in what might be the world’s biggest corruption scandal. An investigation that started in a Brazilian car wash has spread to 16 countries, embroiled more than 100 politicians and business leaders and put billionaires behind bars.
We need to talk about that, don’t you think? So let’slook at the vocabulary we need to discuss something that definitely has to do with us! We have already learned some of this vocabulary. Recycle it here if you need.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events anywhere and everywhere — celebrating locally-driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage.
This last weekend Blumenau hosted the TEDxBlumenauWomen, an independently organized event, one of the two licenses granted to Brazil, to hold the TEDWomen2017: Bridges , a three-day conference about the power of women and girls to be creators and change-makers, which took place in New Orleans a few days ago.
“Let’s take part of this global conversation about our shared future! The more you enter into it, the more you will take out!”
The plot thickens…
A frase completa é a seguinte:
Brazil’s highest court opened an investigation into President Michel Temer on Thursday, after one of the country’s biggest newspapers accused him of paying a former Senate colleague hush money. (CNN)
Ticket
No contexto político, ticket significa “chapa”.
Brazil’s top electoral court, known as the TSE, will decide next year whether or not to invalidate the winning Rousseff-Temer ticket in the 2014 vote if it is found the ticket received illegal campaign funds. (CNBC)
General view of Brazil’s Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) plenary is seen during a meeting at the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) to debate whether to annul the Rousseff-Temer ticket in the 2014 election for receiving illegal campaign donations, in Brasilia, Brazil. (Reuters)
The informant deals of Odebrecht executives could also affect lawsuits seeking to void the Dilma Rousseff-Michel Temer presidential ticket of 2014. (Valor International)
If Temer does not step down, the Electoral Court of Brazil could also rule that the Dilma/Temer ticket in 2014 is null and void if they discover the two politicians received illicit funds as part of their Petrobras investigation. (Forbes)
Temer’s office released a statement denying that he had authorized any bribes to be paid to imprisoned former house speaker Eduardo Cunha in exchange for his silence regarding a long-running corruption investigation. (CNN)

Wesley and Joesley Batista are among JBS’s executives who signed a plea bargain deal with Brazilian authorities in exchange for reduced sentences, in a furore that has sunk Brazil into political and financial uncertainty, threatening to dislodge President Michel Temer. (Financial Times)
Delação premiada – Turn state’s evidence
Em textos jurídicos ou a artigos direcionados a especialistas, a expressão to turn state’s evidence parece ser a forma preferencial, como nesta matéria do Washington Post. Os grifos são meus.
Moro has changed the way corruption cases are tried, de Oliveira said, speeding up the processes and making liberal use of petrial detentions to keep defendants sweating in jail instead of out on bail. As a result, many of them have opted to turn state’s evidence, a procedure that had been uncommon in Brazil. (The Washington Post)

The French went to the polls on May 7 to pick their new president. After the surprise of Britain’s Brexit referendum and the election of Donald Trump as US president, just what kind of politician – and politics – France chooses is of huge interest to many, not just those inside Europe.
Macron’s victory shows cheap xenophobia can be beaten. Confront racism, oppose economic isolation, offer hope – Macron won because he built an alliance around this message. Britain’s progressives must do the same.
Macron confronted racism, stigmatised it, and offered hope. He constructed an alliance of the freemarket elite and left voters on that basis. And however vacuous and unachievable his reform programme may be, it has given French democracy, Europeanism and globalism another chance.
