Getting things done?

so many things to do

We all have a lot of things to do! So let’s get moving! Let’s…

get-things-done

get {something} {past participle}

get the door painted

get the claim processed

get his eyes examined

means to cause the {something} to become {painted, processed, examined, etc}

“Things” means loosely “items on an agenda”.

If you cause things on an agenda to become “done”, that is, to become “accomplished” or “finished”.

If you don’t get things done, you are said to be “ineffectual”.

Someone who gets things done is “effective”.

And after you get things done, you say:

i'm done1

Well, you go on checking what I’m posting here for you until I’m done or until I get ready preparing for our new school year! Hehe…

Getting ready for our new year of studies!

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on the preparations for our new year of studies!

Meanwhile, don’t miss a single opportunity to get involved with the English language!

Are you visiting other countries and practicing your English? Maybe you’re in town, watching movies or TV series during your free time! Or you’re here! And that’s great! Take the time to read what I post on this Blog, for you to warm up before the new school year starts! Hehe…

Just a few words from me to you…

Peace Love Joy1

O Natal no Brasil, coincide com o final do ano escolar e de trabalho. É verão, é quando há o recesso mais longo nas escolas, universidades, e férias coletivas nas empresas. Período para desacelerar, avaliar, refletir, confraternizar e celebrar. Celebrar as batalhas vencidas, as conquistas. Celebrar a vinda de Jesus, olhar ainda com mais cuidado para o lado, se colocar ainda melhor no lugar do outro. Ser a mão que ergue, o olhar que anima, a palavra que estimula.

Por vezes, não é tão fácil, cumprir inteiramente com todas as resoluções de final ou início de ano, pois são muitas as variáveis envolvidas, e não temos o controle absoluto sobre todas elas.

No entanto, conseguimos realizar muita coisa sim!

I hope all your Christmas wishes come true, and that you get set for a great 2020.

I’ll be here, ready for that!

Your teacher Andrea

The true worth of your travels…

Do you know what worth means?

Worth as a noun, means how good or useful something is or how important it is to people [= value]:

The new computer system has already proved its worth.

And how much money something is worth [= value]:

It is difficult to estimate the current worth of the company.

Worth as a preposition, is only used after verbs such as be, seem, look. It means having a particular value, especially in money:

A: I wonder how much the house is worth?

B: About half a million, probably.

To be worth doing something is a common expression. It means that something is useful or important enough to do:

A: I haven’t had a reply to my email to JaneIs it worth phoning her, do you think? (Would it be useful to phone her?)

B: You could try, I suppose.

We decided it wasn’t worth going all the way to London to buy books we could get on the Internet.

To be worth it means ‘to be of reasonable or good value for the price:

A business class ticket cost £2,000, but it was worth it for such a long flight. It was very comfortable
