O consumo de produtos de marcas famosas é um nicho de mercado específico que agrada muita gente.
Falei esta semana, sobre a expressão “brand new“, que significa “novinho em folha“. Hoje, quero fazer uma distinção necessária, ao se falar de marcas de produtos em inglês de negócios, pois há duas palavras possíveis de serem usadas: brand e make (clique nelas para ouvi-las). A primeira tem uso bem generalizado; a segunda, mais específico. Ao juntar brand e suas combinações mais frequentes, você formará expressões fáceis e úteis para a comunicação do dia a dia. Hennessy is a famous brand of cognacs. Hennessy é uma marca famosa de conhaques.
Some examples of leading brands are Apple, Coca-Cola and Google. Alguns exemplos de marcas líderes são Apple, Coca-Cola e Google.
Omafiets is a popular brand of Dutch bicycles. Omafiets é uma marca popular de bicicletas holandesas.
A well-known brand of swiss knives is Victorinox. Uma marca bem conhecida de canivetes é a Victorinox.
What is the most popular brand of shoes? Qual é a marca mais popular de sapatos?
The most famous brand of perfumes is Chanel. A marca mais famosa de perfumes é a Chanel.
Já make, conforme dito anteriormente, é mais usada no contexto automobilístico; utilize-a para falar sobre marcas de automóveis. Os franceses cunharam o termo “marque” ao falarem de carros, e outras línguas acabaram por seguir o mesmo princípio, inclusive o português e o inglês. Tome nota:

They sell cars of different makes at that dealer. Eles vendem carros de diferentes marcas naquela loja.
